The Fine Arts Museum has been housed in the former “Hospital de la Caridad de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo” since 1862, sharing the building and access with the Julio Romero de Torres Museum since 1951.
Dating from the end of the 15th century, it preserves several features from this period, such as the chapel, the main staircase, the courtyard, and the main façade in Gothic Humanist style. The courtyard has a quadrangular structure and serves as the entrance to both museums, with each side differentiated according to the entrance to the museum being accessed. In fact, the remains of one side of the original cloister can still be seen in the Fine Arts Museum.
Most of the works on display are by artist from Cordoba and are spread over two floors. On the ground floor there are three rooms with paintings and sculptures from the Barroque to the 20th century. The works of Romero Barros and his son Julio Romero de Torres, Mateo Inurria and Valdés Leal, among others, deserve special mention. On the upper floor, there are three other rooms with works from the same period. These include works by Pedro Duque Cornejo and Miguel Verdiguier, among others.
