The Patios of Viana are located in the heart of Santa Marina, one of the most traditional areas of the Old Town. Visiting them will awaken our senses due to the flowers, smells and colors, all accompanied by the historical rigor necessary to know in depth the peculiarities of this palace.
It covers an area of 6500m2, more than half of which are courtyards and gardens, specifically 11 and a 19th century French-inspired garden. All of which is the result of the different extensions carried out by its 18 owners, 15 marquesses of Villaseca and 3 marquesses of Viana. Each of them was adding spaces depending on their taste and the different fashions of the time, creating one of the richest cultural and green spaces in the entire city.
Its courtyards are of Andalusian heritage and are characterized by the predominance of water and vegetation in their style. Their architecture is the result of the various transformations that have taken place from the 15th century to the present day. Through this, you would appreciate the personality of the palace.
We must not forget the fact that these courtyards are included as institutional ones in the Festival of the Patios of Cordoba, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2012. Hence, they have been added to the list of heritage sites protected by UNESCO in Cordoba. In the case of the Mosque-Cathedral listed in 1984, it was the first on this list. Ten years later, our Historic Quarter was added. The list of Cordoba’s UNESCO-protected sites was completed in 2018 with the incorporation of the palatine town of Medina Azahara.
